As the 40-day Lenten season begins, San Antonio restaurants such as Rosario’s ComidaMex & Bar, Smashin Crab, The Barn Door, and more are introducing thoughtfully curated specialty menus.
Rosario’s ComidaMex & Bar
The contemporary Mexican Southtown favorite is bringing back its beloved seafood relleno, available Fridays beginning February 20. Each year, San Antonio locals and visitors look forward to the seasonal return of this Lent menu staple.
The dish features a shrimp-stuffed poblano pepper topped with a rich, creamy house sauce and served with poblano rice. Ideal for those observing Lent, the Seafood Relleno offers a flavorful alternative to traditional seafood fare.
Additional seafood offerings include the restaurant’s fresh ensalada de aguacate and its popular fish and shrimp chalupas.
Smashin Crab
The authentic New Orleans Creole full-service seafood restaurant is introducing two limited-time Lent dishes: pan-fried snapper and pan-seared cod.
The pan-fried snapper is served with cilantro-lime rice and finished with a roasted poblano cream sauce. The pan-seared cod is served with a bright lemon-butter caper sauce, garlic-butter sautéed green beans, and creamy garlic mashed potatoes.
On chilly, unexpected days, diners can sip and savor the restaurant’s new Yakamein, a New Orleans staple soup famous for its comforting, hangover-curing qualities.
The Barn Door
For over 70 years, the Barn Door has been serving home-style comfort food. This Lent season, the restaurant is introducing Fish Taco Fridays, beginning February 20. The fish taco plate includes two tacos served with a side of coleslaw and fries.
Additional lunch and dinner seafood options include freshly shucked oysters, shrimp cocktail, and mesquite-grilled or fried Pacific cod, among others.
Muck & Fuss (New Braunfels)
The downtown New Braunfels favorite is introducing two Lent-forward specials available February 18 through April 8: the salmageddon ciabatta and mango tango fish tacos.
The Salmageddon features blackened salmon stacked on ciabatta with bold, tangy flavors, served with crispy zucchini chips, while the Mango Tango Fish Tacos pair blackened salmon with mango pico and sriracha aioli, also served with a side of golden, crispy zucchini chips.
