San Antonio mainstay, the Los Barrios family of restaurants, proudly announces its 45th anniversary with a special celebration featuring the unveiling of a mural dedicated to its matriarch, Viola Barrios. The mural, created by local artist Ana Hernandez of AnArte Gallery, honors the legacy and contributions of Viola Barrios to the San Antonio community and the restaurant industry.
"This mural is a tribute to my mother, Viola Barrios, whose vision and dedication have shaped our family and this restaurant into what it is today," Louis Barrios stated. Diana Barrios added "We are so grateful to our community for their support and patronage for the past 45 years. We are proud to say we have continued our mother's legacy of providing amazing food and hospitality."
This is not the first time Viola's children have honored her legacy. In 2008, Louis, Diana & their sister, Dr. Teresa Barrios Ogden, DPM established the nonprofit, Violas Huge Heart Foundation, which provides support and scholarships to San Antonio area teens who may not have otherwise been able to attend a private catholic high school. The foundation also helps support some of the needs of foster youth that have aged out of the foster care system.
The mural unveiling signifies not only a celebration of the past 45 years but also a commitment to the future of the Los Barrios restaurants. Guests have the opportunity when dining to witness the artistic tribute that represents the restaurant’s rich heritage.
Since its original inception in an old boat house, Los Barrios restaurant has been a beloved fixture in the San Antonio dining scene since 1979. Known for its authentic "Casero Style" Mexican cuisine and warm hospitality, the Los Barrios restaurant expanded to the site of a former Dairy Queen and grew to include La Hacienda De Los Barrios in 2004 & Viola's Ventanas in 2013.
The unveiling of this mural marks a significant chapter in the restaurant's ongoing story, reinforcing its dedication to honoring its roots while continuing to serve the community. As the restaurant looks ahead to the next 45 years, it remains committed to celebrating its heritage and the values instilled by Viola Barrios.
